On Saturday, November 5, 2016 news surfaced in the media about the death of Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Abu Ali. The uproar following his death is yet to die down across Nigeria. His death has been mourned by many across Nigeria, as the late Abu Ali has been described as a brave fighter and a wonderful soldier by many people who knew him.
Late Muhammad Abu Ali was a family man and upon his death he left behind his father Brigadier General Abu-Ali (rtd), the Etsu of Bagga-Nge, his wife and three young children.

Lt Colonel Abu Ali was preparing for a Sambisa operation before he was shot by Boko Haram. Abu Ali was killed by Boko Haram members on Friday November 4 at about 10:00 pm in Borno state. He died in confrontation with suspected Boko Haram terrorists who attacked 119 Battalion, Nigerian army location at Mallam Fatori. 
His father is the Etsu of Bassa-Nge freedom Kogi state, this makes the late Abu Ali a prince of Bassa-Nge. Brigadier-General Abu Ali was governor of Bauchi state from August 1990 – July 1992 and he is now the current Etsu of Bassa-Nge in Kogi state. He retired from the Nigerian Army in 1999 at the rank of a brigadier general.
On several occasions received commendation from the army for his bravery. An eyewitness of his bravery said: “Whenever the Boko Haram terrorists brought an armored tank to a gunfight, Abu Ali was always there to face them with his T-27.” Abu Ali served the nation with his all and paid the supreme price by laying down his life for the peace of the country, and will be remembered for his sacrifice and commitment to the cause of the Nigerian Army to rid the Country of insurgency which has been a source of concern to every one.

According to Cable, Muhammed Abu Ali is the officer who was granted accelerated promotion from rank of major to lieutenant-colonel in September 2015, for his courageous performance in a series of the army’s engagements with Boko Haram. In February 2015, he led a team of the Nigeria army to recapture Baga from the control of terrorists. 6.
